Christmas Break, Trip to Florida 2001: by Andy Stokes
The crew: Steve, Dad, and Andy

Winter had arrived and we all got a little antsy. The lack of sunlight and cold weather had taken its toll on our what once were tan bodies and sound minds. We decided it was time for a Campanoe business trip to Florida.

This is the day of arrival Koreshan State Park near Fort Myers; after 22 hours of straight driving we were relieved to finally be in the water. The park campsites were full but that’s never a problem for us. We put the Campanoe in the water and parked the truck in the boat launch parking lot, since we were on the water we didn’t need reservations.

Tying the boat up before leaving to Fort Myers.

Going out to find a good place to camp for the night. We found a small island with a nice protected cove. As the sun finally set we did some night fishing and had great luck catching fish until the mosquitoes drove us into the tent for the night.

During our trip we played a lot of chess. I remember one particular night very fondly. Both Steve and Dad fell victim to my skills, quite quickly I might add. We had a lot of fun bragging to each other about how good we were. This is on the Estero River which us back out to the Gulf of Mexico to Sanibel Island.

Dad and I screwing around.
